Gianfranco Frattini
A pupil of Gio Ponti, Paduan architect and designer Gianfranco Frattini (Padua,1926 - Milan, 2004) graduated from the Milan Polytechnic in 1953, and immediately started a fruitful collaboration with Cassina; the brand still produces Frattini's 780/783 series (1966), a group of stackable beech coffee tables made in decreasing heights. Co-founder in 1956 of ADI (Association for Industrial Design), Frattini focused his profession as an architect on furniture and interior design, becoming an expert in the field of artisan woodworking, also thanks to the long collaboration he undertook with master cabinetmaker Pierluigi Ghianda, whose pieces are exhibited in prominent museums around the world. Numerous collaborations followed, with illustrious Italian and international design brands, from Bonacina to Knoll and, in the field of lighting, with prestigious companies, such as Arteluce and Artemide: the latter produced the legendary Boalum spiral lamp, designed by Frattini and Livio Castiglioni in 1970.
