A wall decor guide

You found a work of art that would be perfect for your home, but you don't know where and how to hang it? Discover the best curatorial approach with these few rules on how to hang your paintings and decorative pieces.

Finding the right balance between different works of art and putting the collection and the environment in harmony is a real challenge. Museum curators and gallery directors spend hours thinking about which pieces to include in an art exhibition and how to set it up. Even if we don't do shows at home we can still make a successful art staging by following these few tips.

1. Let's always keep in mind our room's architectural barriers and pick the right spot to attach our paintings accordingly. A wall between two windows is the ideal space to house an important work, while a small corner above an armchair tends to be a good place to hang a group of small asymmetrical frames.

2. We can think outside the frame: we don't always need to grab nail and hammer to display our art, we can also use bookcases and shelves to support our paintings or our colored prints. This approach has the advantage of making your collection more flexible: change the layout often without the touble of drilling too many holes in the walls.

3. The colour palette used in a room and its furnishings are important details to evaluate before selecting a work to decorate the space. Coloured prints and multiples look particularly good on light walls, while more modernist and minimalist works give balance to a room already furnished with colotare striped fabrics or in toile de jouy textiles.

4. If you have accumulated graphic works and they have been unframed for a while, perhaps it is time to find another solution. Consider using binder or bull-dog clips, along with simple picture nails to hang paper works or prints in a neat and fun way. It is a really versatile and eye-catching way to display your art.

5. If you have a piece that just doesn't fit anywhere use it seasonally. It may not be the traditional method, but we assure you that including a decorative piece in your outdoors during a barbecue with friends or a special evening, is really rewarding. You will leave your friends speechless and give the impression that you know how to set up the table and also what's around it.
