Date and location: from March 19 to November 6, Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

How has men's fashion changed from ancient times to today and which styles of the past are making a comeback in the taste of the contemporary gentleman? How have the classic European ideals of masculinity been handed down over the centuries?

This story is told in "Fashioning Masculinities: The Art of Menswear", the exhibition that opens on March 19 in London in the galleries of the Victoria & Albert Museum, presenting over a hundred masculine looks flanked by works of art and historical treasures from the collections of the museum.

This is an exhibition that explores a theme that has not been proposed in museums for some time, because, as curators Claire Wilcox and Rosalind McKever explain, «Men's fashion is experiencing an unprecedented period of creativity. It has long been a powerful mechanism for encouraging compliance, or conversely, for expressing creativity. More than a linear or definitive story, this is a journey through time and genres. The exhibition will combine historical and contemporary looks together with the art that reveals how masculinity has been expressed».

Particularly interesting for us at intOndo is the Redressed section of the exhibition: from Kim Jones designs for Fendi to Tom Ford and Alessandro Michele for Gucci, up to Donatel Donatella Versace, Alexander McQueen and Prada, just to name a few, the wardrobe creations dedicated to men by the great fashion designers of our time, interact with tunics, coats and precious fabrics from the mid-19th century to today, including paintings and photographs that testify to styles and behaviors captured in the great phases of change in the male style, from Oscar Wilde, Claude Cahun and Cecil Beaton to the Beatles and Sam Smith.
