2022 marks the 50th birthday of some timeless vintage furnishings, all made in Italy and symbolic of the 70s.
The first is the highly sought after Cactus by Gufram. In 1972, designers Guido Drocco and Franco Mello conceived this soft and seductive totem, instantly subverting the concept of functionality of the piece of furniture. A coat hanger that is also an icon of irony and irreverence.
1972 is the year of the creation of the enveloping Le Bambole (Dolls) sofa, signed by Mario Bellini and produced by B&B Italia. Similar to a giant and compact pillow, this piece features a natural shape evoking comfort and softness at first sight. The Dolls series won the “Compasso d'Oro” award in 1979.
Half a century has also passed since the creation of the timeless Quaderna series (in the picture) created in 1972 by Florentine collective Superstudio for the Zanotta brand. The black and white grid pattern has never been so trendy!
Happy 50th!
