The original version of the ‘Oxford’ chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen for the professors of St. Catherine's College, Oxford in 1963. The chair's extra high back became a symbol of prestige, allowing it to become a space in its own right. The ‘professor chair’ was later developed into the Oxford series. This innovative example of total design is considered Arne Jacobsen's best work. The chairs are upholstered in purple wool fabric with a chrome-plated metal base. The chair has a floor attachment under the foot cover. Good condition, signs of wear due to age.
