Item description
Italian painting from the first half of the 20th century. Oil work on panel signed Grassis G. on the bottom right and therefore attributable to the Piedmontese painter Giuseppe Grassis (1870-1949), lacking authentication. His stylistic signature will be landscape paintings but he will create several miniatures for the Royal Palace of Turin and portraits of the aristocracy. The work in question appears to be a sketch for the painting entitled "the first thorn". In fact, we see a loving mother intent on removing a thorn from her son's hand in an orientalist-style setting which, due to its chromatic choices, could almost seem like a Madonna with child. Contemporary frame in carved and gilded wood with small lacquered wood passepartout, with some small signs of aging. Painting overall in excellent state of conservation. Painting light H 42 x W 25 cm.
