Item description
Venetian school of the 17th century. Large oil work on canvas depicting a biblical episode, the sacrifice of Isaac. To test the faith of Abraham, a just and devout man, God orders him to sacrifice his own son. While he is about to carry out the divine will, an angel of the lord comes down to block him and shows him a ram to sacrifice as a substitute. In fact, we see a splendid angel hovering in the air and while with one hand he blocks the patriarch's knife with the other he points to a ram at the bottom right. A painting of notable pictorial quality, found in particular in the refinement of the chromatic palette and in the creation of the magnificent drapery which gives dynamism to the composition. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and recovery of color in small spots. Overall in excellent state of conservation.
