Spider metal table lamp by Joe Colombro, 1960s











Designed by Joe Colombo in 1965, the Spider series is composed of a single lighting body in fire-painted metal, expressly designed for a special horizontal spot bulb, mounted on a vertical chromed rod and supported by a painted metal base. A melamine joint allows the inclination and repositioning of the reflector. Spider obtained the Compasso d'Oro award in 1967. It is part of the permanent collections of the Triennale di Milano, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Kunstmuseum in Düsseldorf, the "Neue Sammlung" Museum in Munich. In 1972 it was among the lamps on display at the important exhibition at the MoMa in New York which marked the international affirmation of Italian design "Italy: the New Domestic Landscape".
