Item description
Oil on linoleum, with polystyrene applications covered with tinfoil. Signed on the back. Accompanied by an authentication from the Aldo Mondino Archive. The eclectic Turinese artist Aldo Mondino has articulated his artistic research through continuous metamorphoses that have made his production polymorphous: a relentless attempt to find a personal response to the transformations taking place in the 1970s, trying to make art history coexist with the images of mass consumption, personal fantasies, religion, classicism, mysticism, trips to the Orient, friends and kitsch. His stubborn need to experiment with materials - such as coffee, candy, sugar, chocolate drippings from his beloved Piedmont, marshmallows imported from America, bronze, flowers, the strictly blue Bic, ceramics and Heraclite carpets - demonstrates his ability to bring together art, craftsmanship, everyday life, nature and religion. All seasoned with the use of irony, to unmask conventions with grace. In the 1980s, Aldo Mondino undertook a journey between Morocco and Palestine that left such a mark on him that he generated the Dervishes series of works, dancing subjects painted on linoleum, practising the ritual dance characteristic of Turkish tradition by performing fluid, circular movements. The work is presented in a frame.
