Item description

This iconic pair of ceiling lights, crafted from metal and thick glass, features a square, chrome-plated metal frame. The shaped glass elements attached to the sides are made from thick, ground glass with beveled edges; the central square glass panel is opaque, satin-finished, and slightly domed, allowing for an even light diffusion. Inside the frame, the lamp holders are positioned in each corner, and a crossbar houses the electrical wiring along with the attachment mechanism for ceiling installation. This pair was crafted between 1965 and 1969 in an artisanal workshop on the outskirts of Milan. Like many small industry operators, the workshop functioned independently while also producing items for the Veca Company. However, they were not permitted to affix Veca's trademark or label to the pieces, as Veca would handle labeling once the products returned to the company. This system was very common in the Lombard production of various items, as it allowed for efficient scheduling and cost control without sacrificing quality. Veca, like other companies adopting this approach, employed some of the most skilled artisans available. The Veca style aligns with the Space Age aesthetic, distinguished by clean lines and minimalist forms typical of Italian design from that era. Observing these ceiling lights, one immediately notices the linear, understated design, with the geometric style characteristic of Veca's minimalist approach. Veca ceiling lights, like these, were crafted primarily from thick glass and chrome-plated metal, with matte, frosted glass allowing for soft, even light diffusion. Veca and its external artisans operated mainly in the 1960s and 1970s, a period marked by the postwar boom in Italian design. Veca designs were recognized for their geometric, essential style, perfectly in tune with the "Modernist" and "Space Age" trends of the time. Their techniques involved meticulously handcrafted processes, giving each piece a unique, high-quality finish. Many Veca items are now considered collectible, and highly prized by vintage and modernist design enthusiasts. Veca's ability to merge glass and metal into modern, sculptural forms made its lamps and accessories distinctive, adaptable pieces suitable for various settings. Thanks to these qualities, Veca became an iconic brand. Today, although production has ceased, its pieces remain highly sought after by collectors of vintage design. Our ceiling lights are not only functional décor items but also examples of sophisticated style. Elegant, precise, and functional, they create warm, moonlit, shaded, and enveloping atmospheres, offering a fresh perspective to any onlooker. We kindly invite you to read the full description, as we aim to provide detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our items.
