Item description

Refined Italian painting from the mid-17th century. Oil work on canvas depicting a splendid Saint Jerome, of notable pictorial quality. We see him in this particular composition immersed in meditation, while intensely observing the crucifix and the memento mori skull, typical iconographic symbols of the Holy Doctor of the Church. To underline the executive quality of the chiaroscuro effects and the care in creating the complexion and the meticulous anatomical details. Work already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation.
