The Barcellona armchair was designed by Mies van der Rohe for the German pavilion at the 1929 Barcelona Universal Exhibition.
The pavilion was entrusted to him as the greatest exponent of the German Modernist movement, he gave elegance and grace to industrial materials.
He created an innovative pavilion with a space designed to rest the Royals, for whom he wanted to design seats worthy of a king and a queen.
Mies, being Florence Knoll's mentor and friend, granted Knoll International the rights to reproduce the armchair and stool in 1953.
It was made with innovative materials such as steel, to facilitate mass reproduction.
The cushion is made up of 40 squares, all the same, cut and sewn by hand with button quilting.
The armchairs are in a good state of conservation, the structure has a slight patina that can be removed with polishing, while the leather of the cushions has no cuts but shows signs of discoloration due to use and time.
It is possible to restore the color with a leather cream.
No restoration work has been carried out as we prefer the customer to decide whether to maintain the vintage soul of the object or give it new life.
