Item description
The Anfibio sofa designed in 1970 by Alessandro Becchi for Giovannetti represents one of the most iconic pieces of Italian design, and after more than 50 years it is still one of the most requested and appreciated sofas by design enthusiasts. It is part of the design collections of several museums around the world, including the MOMA in New York, where it was exhibited for the first time in 1972, on the occasion of the exhibition “Italy: The New Domestic Landscape” which included the most avant-garde projects of Italian design of the time, including those of: Gae Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass, Joe Colombo, Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper, Mario Bellini, Gaetano Pesce, Ugo La Pietra, Archizoom, Superstudio, Gruppo Strum, Enzo Mari. The Anfibio sofa fit fully into the trend of furnishings that expressed a new way of living and hosting, more relaxed and convivial. In fact, its revolutionary structure allows the sofa to be opened, transforming it into a welcoming daybed capable of accommodating multiple people. The sofa has a steel structure equipped with a hinge that allows it to be opened, padding in non-deformable high-density polyurethane and removable black leather cover. The sofa is in excellent condition, the leather is soft and elastic and shows no wear. The only signs to highlight are: a scratch on the right armrest and two slight deformations of the leather near the armrests. It should also be noted that the slider of one of the two zippers lacks a puller, which does not prevent its functioning, given that the slider slides easily. These signs have been highlighted out of pure scruple and do not reduce the charm of this sofa which is in excellent condition, has been cleaned with detergent milk and is ready for use.
