Item description

Emilian painting from the seventeenth century depicting the presentation of Jesus in the temple, oil on canvas 37 x 33 cm. The composition develops in an architectural environment, with columns and perspective lines that suggest the interior of a temple. At the center of the scene is the Child Jesus, lying on an altar in the arms of a priest, probably the high priest Simeone. Simeone is represented with an elderly appearance, a long beard and a crescent on the head, a symbol that could recall the wisdom and the link with the Jewish cult. To the left, in the foreground, we find the Virgin Mary kneeling in the attitude of prayer and devotion, with the chief in chine in humility. Behind her you can see St. Joseph, wrapped in an orange cloak, which observes the scene with composure.
