After Giacomo Ginotti, The Slave, marble sculpture, beginning 20th c.

Refined white marble statue of the first half of the twentieth century. This is a copy of the highest quality of a work by the great Italian sculptor Giacomo Ginotti (1845-1897). Known how slave or emancipation of slavery had a considerable success and was admired by the King of Italy Vittorio Emanulele II who bought it to expose it to Capodimonte. The sculpture portrays a young slave with exotic features that seeks in vain to get rid of chains and the effort is perceived through the energetic laying and concentrated expression of the face. This statue takes on a social complaint against slavery, at the time not entirely abolished in different parts of the world. However, the strong sensuality of the work cannot be denied, in fact the woman is naked except for a turban that covers her hair and in effort compresses the breasts in her arms. Sculpture of great charm and in beautiful patina, overall in excellent conservative condition.
