Christ bearing the cross, oil on wood painting, 17th -century

Gorgeous Italian painting of the first half of the seventeenth century. Oil work on the table of considerable pictorial quality depicting Christ Portacroce. The subject finds particular luck in the sixteenth century with Titian and other great masters who try their hand at this representation of the Via Crucis. In the first floor we find Jesus who incede towards Monte Calvario bringing the cross to the shoulder. The dramatic expression of the face furrowed by tears expresses all the humiliation inflicted by executioners and human pain for an inevitable fate. To underline the sculptural plasticism of the figures and the executive technique in the realization of the clothes, with bright, almost metallic colors. Cake of the 20th century in carved and golden wood, with some signs of the time. Work already restored with a new park on the back, overall in good conservative state. Painted light h 90 x l 76 cm.
