Giovanni Battista Langetti attr., St. Jerome, oil on canvas, 17th c.

Great religious framework of the 17th century. Oil work on canvas depicting a splendid San Girolamo attributable to the Italian painter Giovanni Battista Langetti (the work is currently not accompanied by Expertise, but it is possible to request it upon payment of the related additional costs). To the naturalistic influence of Ribera's painting, particularly evident in our painting, the luggage will be added that Langetti brings with it from Genoa and will be enriched further after its transfer to Venice. In the composition we find the iconographic attributes typical of the representation of the saint. The doctor of the church is portrayed as a penitent hermit in the desert intent on worshiping the crucifix. In addition, the lion tamed at his feet reminds us that Girolamo had edited the animal and in turn had become a faithful companion. Cake of the 20th century in carved and golden wood, with some signs of the time. Work already restored with Rintelo, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small points. Overall in good conservative state. Painted light h 98 x l 85 cm.
