Flemish painting, San Filippo baptizes the eunuch, 17th century

Splendid Flemish picture of the second half of the seventeenth century. Oil work on canvas depicting a rare biblical scene, the baptism of the UNUUCO Ethiopian by San Filippo. A high dignity of the Queen of Ethiopia meets the saint along the road to Jerusalem and the two confront each other on the themes of faith. In the end they stop at a small river and the eunuch is baptized, the first baptism of a gentle (non -Jew) told in the New Testament. The composition is structured in order to drive the look from the first floor to the bottom, where you can see the royal procession with horses and servants. The palette is warm with a strong contrast between the bright red of the cloak of San Filippo and the golds and blues of the precious guise of the UNUCO. A little behind two pages hold the sword and the wonderful turban while a dove that descends from heaven represents divine approval. Cake of the nineteenth century in richly carved and lacquered wood, with some signs of the time. Work already restored with Rintelo, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small points. Overall in good conservative state. Painted light h 53 x l 40 cm.
