Item description
A vintage handmade wool rug from 1980s Algeria, in tricolour stripes of pleasing reds, browns, and blacks. The wool yarns come from ethically grown livestock, and are hand dyed and treated by locals using traditional organic methods – hence the high quality finish. These specific rugs are from the rebellious Kabylie mountains, where locals still speak the Berber Amazigh language. Tradition dictates that all young girls should have dowry for when it’s time to get married. As a result, they weave a significant amount of textiles with the help of their mothers and grandmothers to take to their new houses. All rugs should be washed in cold water and dried flat. Please note two are available, but the price is for one rug. Wool, cotton, natural dyes. Lightly used. Slight wear consistent with age but overall good condition
