The "sommerso" is an art form of Murano glass that presents layers of contrasting colors (usually two), the technique involves the immersion of a blown thick in the crucible containing the transparent glass of another color and equally thick. The superimposition of thick transparent glass allows to obtain particular chromatic effects. Submersion was developed in Murano during the late 1930s and was made popular in the 1950s by Seguso Vetri d'Arte, directed by Flavio Poli.
