Antique Italian painting of the 17th century. Oil painting on canvas depicting mythological subject Venus and Adonis by a good painterly hand. The painting depicts the death of Adonis killed by an enraged boar at the behest of the jealous Ares. At the top, adorned by a festoon with putti, Venus in despair discovers the body of her lover. Antique frame, not contemporary, in wood and plaster, finely carved and gilded with beautiful decoration and some small signs of time (see photo). A work of great size and impact for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors of antique mythological paintings. Painting that has undergone a conservative restoration, re-tinting, replacement of the frame and restoration of the colour in several points (see photo).
