Item description

Precious and peculiar night bottle made of blown glass and "encamiciato"; the object is composed of a pumpkin-shaped bottle with a flared neck on which the glass rests; both were blown in a single piece without joints, then shaped with mastery by the skilled craftsmen of the La Rochère glassworks in France between 1950 and 1954; The bottle and glass were produced using the "flamed" technique, which consists of superimposing one or more layers of glass of various colours on the glass mass during the first stage of manufacture. Flamed glass is glass of varying thickness, usually with a double layer of glass. It is an ancient technique, also widely used today, which is achieved by immersing a blown object being worked in a crucible of a glass of different colours. At the end of the process, a blown object will consist of two or more layers of different colours, for example, a white one may be covered by a red one (see our bottle and glass), or a coloured glass may be covered by a layer of clear crystal glass. On our two objects, the craftsman carried out another special operation: at the precise moment when the two glasses, red and white, began to amalgamate, the Master placed a few fragments of black metal oxides on the red surface, then began the blowing and shaping, quick and fast, so that the black spots would expand and distribute only on the surface of the object without penetrating, as if they were brushstrokes, then he put the bottle and glass back in the kiln for a very short time and proceeded to rapid cooling. On the bottom of the bottle and the bottom of the glass (as well as on the label) we find the Rochère company logo printed with an acid engraving. La Rochère is a fine glassworks founded in the town of Passavant-La-Rochère, on the border between Lorraine Franche-Comté and Champagne, in 1475 by Simon de Thysac, a gentleman glassmaker; it is the oldest artistic glassworks in France still in activity and has been exalting the tradition and workmanship of glass for over five centuries. La Rochère is not just a workshop that produces glass objects, but designs and creates objects and products inspired by emotions, marked by history and shaped by a will. In our bottle, you will not only find rigorous work on form, practicality and robustness, but also a unique style, a timeless brand, a French elegance. What may appear to be small defects on the inside or outside of the glass (bubbles, lumps, streaks, etc.) are in fact evidence of craftsmanship and not the result of modern moulding operations. The bottle measures 20 cm in height, 13 cm in diameter, the glass measures 9 cm in height, 7 cm in diameter.
