Oil on canvas Rebecca at the Well by Michele Desubleo, 17th century

An important oil on canvas work, (canvas only 130 - 148 cm) attributable to a follower of Michele Desubleo, known as Michele Fiammingo (Maubeuge, 1601 - Parma, 1676), depicting the Old Testament episode of "Rebecca at the well". The stylistic characteristics are evident (even in the physiognomic characterisation of the faces) that link this important work of considerable size to the production of the great master Desubleo (see, in particular, "Atalanta e Meleagro" in the Museo Civico di Modena or the canvas with "Ratto d'Europa" offered by CHRISTIE'S in auction 17467, at lot 257 (estimate $60,000 - 80,000). The painting is in good condition, it is already re-tinted with some small colour falls and superficial scratches, plastering and reversible pictorial restoration. The work is set in an antique wooden frame, moulded and gilded.
