Item description
Pair of three-flame Victorian candlesticks; the round base supports a truncated conical stem at the end of which the structure with volute fluted arms can be inserted, thus completing an ensemble of great aesthetic impact; the candlesticks are adorned with rich and sumptuous decorations typical of the Victorian period; removing the upper part of the stem they can be transformed into two single flame candlesticks. Unfortunately, the two ornamental pinnacles which were placed in the central part of the three lights and which had only a decorative function have been lost. The pair was made between 1880 and 1885 in a small craft workshop in Birmingham, England; we are not able to trace the name of the manufacturer because the candlesticks are not marked; we stated they are from Birmingham as the expert antiques dealer we bought them from on Rowheath Rd, Cotteridge in Birmingham assured us they are locally made. The pair is in excellent condition, the silver plating is worn in places and the copper underneath can be seen.
