Particular and elegant coffee table made of the best quality Sapele wood; the round top has been shaped with a delicate and refined scallop line; it has a second comfortable top at the bottom that is simply round and smooth; the legs have a soft and saber shape and in the upper part they are manually chiseled with light leaf decorations, they have been connected to the upper floor with a very elegant and refined curvilinear shape, while in the lower part they are joined by two shaped and crossed partitions on which rests the lower round top. A solid wood frame is fixed under the top to make the whole table sturdier. Sapele was used for the construction of this piece of furniture, a prestigious reddish-colored wood similar to mahogany from equatorial Africa. This sophisticated material has a dense weave and intertwined fibers, fine and uniform, with a good natural sheen. It is a sturdy type of wood, rather flexible, hard and compact. It is usually used for luxury furniture and wardrobes, but also for the furnishing of yachts and boats and for sophisticated and expensive musical instruments. The coffee table was handcrafted in the Chippendale style between 1920 and 1925 in a cabinetmaking workshop in the county of Devon in south-east England, an artisan area also known for its woodworking. The table is in good general condition, it has some very light scratches on the top, which we will soften with a special beeswax. Measure diameter 72 cm, height 70 cm.
