Item description
French table lamp; the top is made of precious opal glass in the shape of an inverted bell, the base is made of wood and brass; this model owes its name and its origin to the Parisian lamp manufacturer "Mazda", which in the 1920s proposed two twin designs of a table lamp and a floor lamp; the two models stood out for their essential practicality and for their elegant and refined silhouette and soon became two iconic objects in the field of lighting. The lamp was manufactured in France between 1930 and 1935 by "Mazda Lamp". When it is turned on, with this type of milky white opal glass, the lamp takes on an even more marked elegance, diffusing a soft light. The opaline is a slightly translucent glass, opacified by means of phosphates and sodium and calcium chlorides with the addition of tin and talc oxides, which gives rise to various shades of colour, from pastel to milky white; the first opal glass ornaments were made in Murano in the 16th century, the technique did not remain a secret and was copied in Germany and France and enjoyed its maximum splendor from 1820 to 1870; for lighting, opal glass was a huge success in the early 1900s.
