Item description

Description:English Victorian walnut-root center-foot table with distinctive sail mechanism. The oval-shaped top has dense walnut burl in the center,while on the edge, enclosed between reserves of fine exotic wood is an alternating pattern of rhombuses with micromosaic inlay. The central trunk bearing a finely carved carving is supported by four cabriole feet terminating in leaf and curl scrolls resting on coeval porcelain casters. Historical background: The term Victorian period refers to the reign of the great Queen Victoria, who ruled England from 1837 to 1901: a period of great change and improved living conditions, these seventy years were also characterized by greater rigor in every aspect of life, including furnishings. Thus was born the original and inimitable Victorian style, which became the quintessential English style, distinctive of the new middle class.
