Aldo Gentilini (1912-1982) was a self-taught painter and sculptor; his painting is the painting of moments that one tries to hold back, nuances of souls and sensations fixed in a sign, in a hatching that somehow recalls a Mirò. He took philosophy courses and lived in a monastic cloister for a few years. Aldo Gentilini's artistic life was made up of ups and downs. A great innovator for his time, he devoted himself to painting with great enthusiasm, preferring the oil technique but not neglecting acrylic colours at all. His paintings, characterised by bright, sometimes strident colours, develop into pseudo-cubist compositions in which fields of pure colour create a dialectic that projects itself off the canvas. A prolific author, he experienced his heyday at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, when his fame transcended regional borders. After years of undeserved oblivion, his works are once again attracting the interest of the more refined public. He has exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Canada, America, Australia, Germany and Switzerland.
