Item description
Abstract Composition, work by Paolo Masi, enamel on cardboard signed and dated Paolo Masi 1999 on the back and inserted in plexiglass case. The work is accompanied by an authentication on a photo signed and dated by the author. Paolo Masi was born in Florence in 1933. From the 1950s onwards, he participated in the experimental elaboration of new artistic trends that in Florence was to be characterised as a profound and never to be healed break with the past. A liberation from the canons of formalism and all types of academicism pursued with intensity and coherence, which in Paolo Masi would move from the initial experiences of informal painting and concrete abstractionism to an articulate, complex and diversified activity on a technical-linguistic level. In the 1960s, Masi's activity of a programmatic and theoretical nature took the form of participation in collectives and groups, and was always closely linked to an uninterrupted and continuous experimentation on the way of working and transforming matter: for the Florentine artist, his work was something always in fieri, which from time to time opened up to new insights and new solutions.
