Presented to the public in 1970, Camaleonda has spanned five decades of design history as an absolute protagonist. Designed by Mario Bellini, this modular sofa defined the interior design aesthetics of an era thanks to its great success with the public and critics.
Camaleonda is extraordinary primarily in its aesthetic character and versatility. The generous polyurethane upholstery that forms the characteristic capitonné is obtained through the innovative system of cables, hooks and rings devised by Bellini, which guarantee its appearance and modularity. In fact, thanks to tie rods and rings, the modules can be detached and recombined at will, allowing the sofa to adapt to the evolving taste and dynamic needs of its user.
The founding characteristic of Camaleonda is its almost infinite modularity, a geometric nature that allows each element to become a sort of gigantic pixel through which one can define one's domestic environment. By hooking and unhooking seats, backrests and armrests, one can take the luxury of changing one's mind as many times as one likes, moving and redesigning the space.
The designer, Mario Bellini, himself said of Camaleonda: "On the threshold of the 1970s, upholstered domestic furniture was still mostly stagnating between tired variants of historical typologies and elitist, radical-provocative leaps forward, which - although stimulating - were hardly capable of questioning the relationship between the evolution of new behaviour in the domestic space and the types of furniture then available on the market".
Camaleonda, then, is not a simple sofa, but the symbol of a change, of transformation, of the passage from one era to the next. Nine pieces.
