Item description
An exceptional and important centrepiece in transparent lead crystal. The very slender and aesthetically daring shape, full of curves and rounded ends, fascinates us with its incomparable and elegant plasticity and lightness. The master craftsmen succeeded in making the massive block of crystal, delicate, almost vaporous. They transformed the crystal by twisting, pincer-working and shaping it by hand, thus creating an aesthetically extraordinary and captivating object. The centrepiece was made between 1950 and 1955 in a handicraft workshop in the small town of Vannes-le-Chatel, located in the department of Meurthe and Moselle in the Grand Est region of France, an area very famous for glass production. Many local craftsmen collaborated with the Crystalworks of Vannes and were often inspired, as in our case, by models from the Crystalworks itself for their precious creations. History traces the foundation of the Crystalworks of Vannes back to around 1765, under the patronage of the aristocracy, and it immediately became one of the most important glass manufactures in France, producing glassware, before diversifying into ornamental works in 1930. In 1963, production of decorative lead crystal glass began, with a peak in production in the period 1960-1970. The Vannes Cristalleries became the Compagnie Française du Cristal (CFC) and later integrated Daum under the name CFC Daum. Around 1970, ART Vannes ceased production and Cristal de Sevres was born, which has only been producing under the Daum brand name since 1980. Regardless of the different signatures, the glass and crystal masterpieces from Vannes-le-Châtel are part of the history of French decoration and have influenced all production in the Vannes-le-Chatel area. The centrepiece is in good condition, only under the base there are small chips, so small that they cannot be photographed. Width 54 cm, depth 15 cm, height 29 cm. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
