Bar sideboard by Umberto Mascagni for Harrods, 1950s

Collector's sideboard designed in Italy by Umberto Mascagni of Bologna. The 1950s four-door, four-drawer sideboard was made with back-painted glass doors, four doors with a woman descending the stairs. The main body structure is made of European solid wood and is very heavy. This piece features a cream colored vinyl with anodized aluminum. The outside and inside of the cabinet are covered in black faux lizard skin and patterned gray vinyl. Even the legs are over! A very attractive and very roomy piece of furniture, in excellent vintage condition! Glass top to protect the vinyl. This extravagant sideboard or bar cabinet is an interesting example of mid-century Italian design. In 1952 Umberto Mascagni created a new way of producing furniture using new materials such as PVC and anodized aluminium. It was a provocation, considering the market of the time. His furniture was sold at Harrod's, London 1952-1955. This piece features an additional adjustable mirror.
