Item description
Original lithographic print depicting jockey Frank Wotton for Vanity Fair, 1909. Complete with briar-root frame. The caption reads "Frank Wotton". Print is in very good condition with clean margins. "Born December 14, in the year 1893, he is thus approaching the interesting age of sixteen. He rides with the skill and coolness of a veteran, qualities to which he adds the confidence of youth". Vanity Fair was a British weekly published from 1868 to 1914. Founded by Thomas Gibson Bowles, it offered its readers articles on fashion, current affairs, theater, books, social events, and the latest scandals. A full-page color lithograph of a contemporary celebrity or dignitary appeared in most issues and it is for these caricatures that Vanity Fair is best known today.
