Item description

Louis XVI style small secrétaire for ladies, also called "Bonheur du Jour", made in the 19th century. In the shape of a casket, with the flap door revealing a writing surface, two small drawers and an inner shelf. Four "cabriole" legs with gilt bronze feet. The front is set with elaborate inlay and surmounted by a finely chiseled gilt bronze gallery. Original marble top. The sécretaire is an example of the importance of writing in 19th century France.
