Art Deco bakelite and brass female sculpture on marble base, 1930s
SILVER Seller in Torino, Italy
Art Deco sculpture depicting a woman in typical period clothing, 1920s-30s. Marble base, female figure with bakelite body and golden dress made of unpolished brass and hand-engraved with circular decorations. The woman's pose, dress and bare feet suggest that she is a dancer. The posture is also very reminiscent of the iconic Statue of Liberty; the similarity or at any rate the homage to the great New York icon may refer to the great importance Art Deco had in America, which there became, unlike in Europe, an opulent and lavish artistic and decorative movement, despite the fact that the period was that of Prohibition.
