Item description
A pretty and graceful Italian bedroom armchair; the form is particularly pleasing, the front legs are 'cabriole', while the back legs, very slender, are cylindrical tapered and turned; all the legs are in black lacquered wood. The upholstery, in smooth purple velvet, was made at a later date; a refined trimmed decoration was placed from the armrests along the entire backrest, and also under the seat and around the top of the legs, a decorative detail that adds a touch of elegance and personality to the armchair. Our armchair was produced in the 'Hollywood' style between 1950 and 1955 in Brianza, a region north of Milan, Italy, which was and still is famous for the production of high quality furniture, including armchairs; numerous companies and craftsmen operated in the area and contributed to the production of luxury armchairs. The armchairs of the 1950s were often characterised by curved and sinuous shapes, with rounded backrests and rounded or slightly inclined armrests. These soft curves gave the armchairs a cosy and comfortable look. The armchairs of the 1950s were often designed to fit into the bedroom spaces of the time, which tended to be smaller than today's bedrooms. As a result, the armchairs of the 1950s were often compact in size and did not take up too much space. Moreover, 1950s armchairs were characterised by a unique retro style that made them instantly recognisable. They were often characterised by a combination of classic elegance and a touch of modernity, with the use of bold colours and enveloping shapes. The Hollywood style in furniture is an aesthetic inspired by the golden age of Hollywood, from the 1920s to the 1950s. This style is characterised by luxurious, glamorous and opulent elements, often with a touch of eccentricity. Hollywood-style furniture is characterised by sinuous and elegant lines. Chairs, armchairs, sofas and beds often have rounded shapes or accentuated curves. The armchair is in good condition. Width 51 cm, depth 50 cm, height 100 cm, seat 34 cm.
