Item description
La Basilica table by Mario Bellini for Cassina, 1978. Made of natural national walnut (wood now out of production). Top with three slats and base with six legs. Product purchased in 1978 in northern Italy. Completely restored and original. Table with a solid architectural structure that is an example of the new design language that Bellini invented in the 1970s and examined in his "Libro dell'Arredamento". In keeping with this approach, which is based on the primary functions of individual pieces of furniture, where each piece can be reformulated through a reinterpretation of its traditional form, depending on function, materials, and finishes. La Rotonda is part of a series of tables designed in 1976, including La Corte, Il Colonnato and La Loggia, all inspired by primary structures of classical architecture. The result is many solutions that meet any need. These masterpieces underscore the close relationship that exists between furniture design and architecture, exemplified in this case in the use of supports such as pillars, which testify to Cassina's unparalleled mastery of woodworking. This beautiful piece of furniture can be used as a dining table or desk. Characterized by its bold lines and brilliant oak finish, La Basilica is the perfect centerpiece of any modern composition.
