Item description
Large mahogany hall sideboard with a four-door frame and four drawers, resting on eight wavy, carved legs joined by a shaped top. First half of the 1950s. The main body in Neoclassical style is distinguished by four doors decorated with tiles in a geometric motif, with brass carved masks inside. In the central part of the cabinet, two lockable doors conceal a light-coloured wooden bar compartment, equipped with a lighting system and featuring four glass shelves and, in the lower right-hand corner, two small, light-coloured wooden drawers. The upper inner profile of the bar cabinet is made of light wood, with alternating oval and rhomboid carvings. The two side doors are single with locks and conceal two further light wood compartments, each with two glass shelves. The keys for the locks are original. Under the main body are four large drawers, lined internally with light-coloured wood, with lock and carved frames and a shaped, smooth, exposed top supported by eight legs carved with acanthus leaf motifs and scrolls. Between the drawers is a decorative frieze in grisled wood, also present on the left and right of the drawer area. An original key opens the locks of the four drawers. The sideboard, equipped with seven locks, can store valuable services and tablecloths. There is no manufacturer's label, but the sideboard is part of a dining room set that includes a table and four chairs with identical carvings of scrolls and acanthus leaves in the legs of the table and chairs. The table bears the trademark of the Fratelli Barni Mobili d'Arte Seveso factory, a company specialised in the production of style furniture, active in the Milan area since the 1930s and with a showroom in Milan at Via dei Giardini 3. The 'VIMAR' brand, a company founded in 1945 in Marostica (Vicenza), is present on the interior lighting system. The dating of the sideboard to the first half of the 1950s is certain; the dining room belongs to the Milan flat of a married couple married in July 1951. The object, which is in very good condition, is a fine example of mid-century Italian manufacture.
