Leatherette, metal and glass sideboard by Umberto Mascagni, 1950s

Sideboard by Umberto Mascagni, 1950s. Splendid burgundy-colored leatherette upholstery, black leatherette legs and details, gilt metal borders; all excellently preserved and uniform, with no haloing or brightening of time. It features four doors with decorated back glass depicting a woman with a pitcher; there are drawers in the center. In 1950 Mascagni created a new line of luxury furniture using alternative materials; these were presented and made exclusively for Harrods in London. The sideboard has no mark or signature but is attributed to Mascagni as it is documented in design history. Light marks due to age and use.
