Item description

Iconic glazed ceramic vase. The shape was made by pressing in white refractory earth, the stencil decoration with different motifs was executed. The object was first fired and then blue 'cristallina' was applied; at this point the vase was fired a second time to fix the cristallina. Crystals' are special glazes in which the vitreous part predominates over all the other components. crystals can be transparent or coloured, the coloured ones make the engraved surfaces and bas-reliefs stand out, the workings of our ashtray with the beautiful blue colour of the crystalline acquire body and visibility. The vase was designed by the ceramist Aldo Londi and produced between 1965 and 1968 by the Bitossi company of Montelupo Fiorentino (Tuscany). The Bitossi family has been present in Montelupo Fiorentino since 1536; the Bitossi family were versatile artists but more than anything else they devoted themselves to ceramics. In the early years of the 20th century they proposed an extraordinary stylistic and formal renewal with their production; but it was from the 1950s, under the direction of Aldo Londi, that the evolution in a modern direction became disruptive, an evolution that would continue over the years with the collaboration of important Italian and foreign designers, leading the Bitossi family to represent Italian excellence in the world. Aldo Londi (1911-2003), painter, sculptor and above all ceramist, who joined Bitossi in 1946, was a man with a strong creative spirit, attentive to the changing tastes of the markets, convinced of the uniqueness of Italian products; he was the undisputed protagonist of the style of Bitossi production for more than fifty years, putting his great artistic skills and his untiring desire to experiment at the service of the company. Width 17 cm diameter, height 31 cm. The vase is in excellent condition. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) to ensure maximum protection and safety of the objects.
