Doge table by Carlo Scarpa for Simon, 1960s

Archived

Steel and crystal Doge table designed by Carlo Scarpa for Simon in 1968. With the Doge table Scarpa began production for Simon, starting a series of projects called Ultrarazionale; Scarpa tried to invent a production that goes beyond rationalism by proposing a new essential linearity. With the Doge table, production began for Simon, founded by Dino Gavina after having sold the company to Knoll in 1967. The Doge table was born as a variant of a table that Scarpa had designed for the Zentner house in Zurich in which the ebony top it is replaced by a thick glass top. This replacement allows the entire structure of the table, the assembly and the screws to be clearly visible, thus creating a strong architectural impact and a sort of beauty in the final expression.
