Item description

Particular Napoleon III style French vanity table in walnut wood. The upper top has a rectangular shape and is surrounded by an elegantly decorated gilt bronze band. It is hinged so it can stand up perpendicular to the cabinet and has a mirror inside. The peculiarity of the top is its inlay workmanship: beautiful geometric decorations, with different shades of exotic woods, enclose a detailed inlay depicting flowers, leaves and ribbons; an exceptional set with a fantastic color effect. The four legs in the upper part have the classic saber shape and are joined by a rectangular top, also with floral inlays, which, in addition to its practical and aesthetic function, makes the dressing table solidly stable. In the lower part, the legs have the sinuous "cabriole" shape. The fake drawer under the top is divided into comfortable deep compartments. On each front leg there are two curled gilded bronze decorations and a small one at the end of the legs themselves. This work of art was created by a true Master cabinetmaker in a perfect and meticulous way between 1850 and 1855 in an artisan workshop in the city of Nantes, located in the Loire region, famous for the production of fine furniture during the 18th and the 19th century. Furniture produced in Nantes was known for its elegant style and use of fine woods. The Master has created an object of incredible finesse, of great rigor, clarity and regularity in the design. The Masters had a lot of freedom to create the decorative motif they liked best; for this reason, each inlay is unique. The colors of the inlay changed depending on the essence, cut and grain of the wood. These factors, in fact, caused the refraction of light on the surface to vary. The inlay technique, therefore, is very complicated: only the most skilled master cabinetmakers were able to perform such difficult work. The right dimensions, the symmetry, the balance of the proportions and the precious inlays make this piece of furniture a precious and versatile object that can be placed without difficulty in any type of environment.
