Item description
Original and particular chandelier made of gold-coloured anodized aluminium. On a solid central bar with a square section, four other bars with a rectangular section are arranged perpendicularly and asymmetrically, at the top of which four parallelepipeds have been placed with electrical connections for the light bulbs. To direct the light downwards, the light points are enclosed in ice-effect shaped half crystals and are connected to each other by an electric wire that emerges from the top of the central bar for connection to the mains. Furthermore, on the upper central bar there is a sturdy ring to which you can attach the brass chain included in the chandelier, so you can adjust the height of the chandelier as you wish. The object has a modern and contemporary design, not too busy but essential, a unique piece of furniture, refined and elegant at the same time that adapts naturally and simply to both contemporary and classic environments. It was created in Space Age style between 1964 and 1968 in an artisan workshop in Milan, inspired by a design by Gaetano Sciolari, a famous and prolific Italian designer and entrepreneur. Angelo Gaetano Sciolari, born in 1927 in Italy, contributed significantly to the success of Italian design in the world and in particular in the United States. He was an excellent businessman as well as an innovative creative designer. In 1949, after his father's death, he had to manage the family business that produced lightweight items. In just a few years, the designer transformed the company into an international enterprise. The manufacturer Sciolari became the first seller of Italian lamps in the United States (imported from America by Lightolier & Progress Lighting). Americans saw Sciolari products on the famous television program Dall. The style of the chandelier is Space Age, an aesthetic movement born at the dawn of the Space Age, commonly attributed to the launch of Sputnik in October 1957. The Space Age design captured society's optimism and faith in technology in the 50s and 60s and up to the early 70s. The caps that enclose the light points are made of half crystal; unlike crystal, the glass from which half crystal is made does not contain lead. The half crystal is worked and then placed in an electric oven to make the edges of the faces less sharp, then hot or fire polished to give it a shiny and brilliant finish with an ice effect. The half crystal originates from Bohemia. The chandelier elements look incredibly similar to that of a real ice sculpture: when illuminated and flooded with light, they cast beautiful shadows on the surrounding walls, creating a welcoming warmth in the room despite their frozen appearance; they play with natural light (sun) even when they are turned off. The electrical system is functional but the wiring is European, the compatibility of the voltage in other countries must always be checked by an electrician before use.
