MB1 Casaccia cabinet by Luigi Caccia Dominioni for Azucena, 1970s

Founded in 1947 by Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella and Corrado Corradi Dell'Acqua, "the Italian brand Azucena has always stood out for its collections that combine formal elegance, understated luxury, pure and sharp aesthetics and extremely high craftsmanship". The brand that the architects call Azucena - named after the gypsy woman in the theatre opera Il Trovatore - was created both to collect and produce some of their furniture designs for the buildings they designed and, conversely, to be able to produce individually some of the furniture that is part of furniture series they designed. The 'MB1 Casaccia' storage unit is part of the furniture collection that architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni designed for Azucena in the early 1970s. It is a very refined piece of service furniture - not round as it would appear at first glance, but oval - that the architect designed as a single piece in handcrafted wood and Azucena made of curved plywood and very thin shelves lacquered in white. The curved back ends with a top under which a small drawer takes its place, leaving space at the bottom for three more very thin shelves. Excellent condition. Only a slight crack in the lacquering on the top.
