French sculpture from the late 19th century. Finely carved alabaster work depicting a young gleaner, girl with scythe and ears of corn, excellent quality. Center-finished sculpture, signed "L. Grégoire" on back (see photo), referable to sculptor Leon Grégoire ('800-'900); lacking authentication. Onyx base (see photo). Work of beautiful size and pleasing decor, for antiquarians and interior decorators. Girl characterized by an attitude that exudes dignity, with solemn bearing of great refinement. In good condition; structurally solid with some minor signs of time.
