Item description
Set of six 412 CAB chairs in burgundy leather by Mario Bellini for Cassina, 1970s. One of Bellini's most iconic creations, CAB is the world's first freestanding cowhide leather designer chair, informed by the relationship between the skeleton and the skin; an authentic example of manufacturing excellence that requires multiple stages of craftsmanship to create a trendy, tailor-made object. The covering is made up of sixteen pieces of leather; individually die-cut, they are then subjected to fourteen discrete processes, always by hand. The pieces are sewn together only after trimming the outer edges to ensure a perfect fit. Once assembled, the cover is fixed to the steel skeleton of the chair and held in place with a zip, as in a tailor-made garment made to measure. Seat height: 45 cm.
