Item description
Schroeder 1 coffee table by Gerrit Rietveld for Cassina, early 1970s. The production was made of only a few examples. The coffee table belongs to the series of the first 500 pieces made and is in good condition considering its age. It shows normal signs of wear but is free of particular damage; it has two slight corner lacks, slight surface scratches on the top and on some areas of the surfaces of the colored parts, which can be left as is or partially removed by polishing. It bears the stamp of furniture maker Rietveld of Cassina. Made of wood with a black-stained beech top and lacquered parts in red, white, blue and yellow. This beautiful asymmetrical creation by architect, craftsman and designer G. T. Rietveld (1888-1964) was specially designed for the Schroeder house in Utrecht, Holland, with the geometric cubist form of De Stijl design in 1922. Rietveld was one of the leading exponents, along with Piet Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg, J. J. P. Oud, Antony Kok, and Vilmos Huszár of the Neoplastic movement that emerged in 1917 in Holland.
