Item description
Submerged Murano glass ashtray in the style of Mandruzzato, 1960s. Solid and distinctive Murano glass ashtray, it has a strong line, with clean, decisive cuts and very accentuated edges. The colors red (obtained with gold chloride), yellow (obtained with a mixture of sulfur and cadmium) and blue (obtained with cobalt oxide) combine with harmony and precision. It was made between 1964 and 1968, in a small furnace in Murano, managed by former master glassmakers of the Mandruzzato company who created it following the company's style and using the "submerged glass" technique. This technique was born in Murano at the end of the 1930s but became popular in the 1950s thanks to the skill and inventiveness of the Murano master craftsmen. The "submerged glass" technique, starting from blown or solid glass, allows you to obtain multiple overlapping layers of different colors with a suggestive chromatic effect; this is possible by immersing the glass being processed in crucibles of different colors. Thus, the result is an artefact made up of several layers of different thickness and color such as to create incredible chromatic and decorative effects within the object itself; the operation is not simple and is carried out only by very expert glass masters. With the help of special smoothing tools, he gave the linear and geometric shape to our ashtray which, once cooled, moved on to the delicate phase of flattening and polishing by hand with cork wheels, operations that allowed us to have the surfaces perfectly flattened, smoothed and polished exceptionally. The Mandruzzato company is a renowned glass company based in Murano and is known for its exquisite glass creations, including ashtrays. Mandruzzato ashtrays are made using traditional glass blowing techniques perfected over generations in Murano. They are characterized by bright colors, bold geometric patterns, eye-catching color combinations and high-quality workmanship. Each ashtray is a unique work of art, showcasing the skill and creativity of the glass artisans. The artisans of the small Murano furnace have mastered the color of the glass with the mastery that distinguishes them, they have given the ashtray a strong and elegant shape, and they have worked and subjected the glass to their artistic sensitivity, creating a unique and fantastic object that fascinates with its unparalleled workmanship which contributes to the particular and engaging play of light.
