Item description
Mixed media painting on cardboard by Russian artist Mihail Chemiakin belonging to the Carnival of Saint Petersburg series. Created in mixed media using Indian ink, wax crayons and watercolours. The painting depicts Saint Petersburg carnival masks drawn in the unmistakable style of the author, who distorts them to such an extent that they appear monstrous. The painting is signed in ink and dated 1981 in the bottom right-hand corner. Mihail Chemiakin (1943) is a Russian painter who later moved to America; he is a controversial representative of the non-conformist artistic tradition of Saint Petersburg. In 1993 he received the State Prize of the Russian Federation. The work is in perfect condition and has no defects. Size without frame: 32 x 32 cm.
