Item description
Early 20th century Art Deco oil painting on canvas depicting an interior with a family scene. The work depicts in the foreground a woman, probably a guardian, intent on cutting an apple to give to a typical child of the 1920s-30s. Behind the two figures in the foreground is a young red-haired woman intent on sewing. The scene takes place indoors and in the background we find a vase of flowers and draperies. The main source of light comes from the window on the left; this choice gives the painting movement through natural light. Despite being a familiar scene, the painting is austere and conveys a severity probably due to the war years. Thanks to the interiors and the clothes, we can guess that the characters belong to a wealthy social class. The painting is unfortunately not signed. From the style of painting and the depiction, it can be dated to the beginning of the 20th century and denotes Emilian influences. The canvas is in excellent condition as it has undergone a conservative restoration and has been restretched.
